JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for:
  • rigging, unloading, carrying, and tying reinforcing steel for concrete placement
  • rigging, unloading, guiding, aligning, placing fastening and all manner of structural steel members to erect structural steel
  • inspecting completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations
  • cleaning, maintaining, adjusting, calibrating and servicing equipment used in the performance of duties
  • maintaining appropriate service and repair records
Requirements
Ability to:
  • build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form various structures
  • erect steel frames
  • direct operation of cranes for structural steel, reinforcing bars, and other materials onto and around the construction site
  • connect steel columns, beams, and girders
  • drill holes into steel for bolts
  • number steel according to erection prints
  • unload and stage steel
  • attach cables to steel and then to the crane
  • hoist steel into place in the framework
  • position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches
  • check work for quality, conformance to print specification and workmanship standards
  • read and comprehend plans and blueprints
  • perform physical labor
  • follow and give oral and written instructions
  • maintain cooperative working relationships
  • demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population
Knowledge of:
  • thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in industry
  • applicable building and safety code requirements
  • methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • high school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
  • 5 years of experience working as a carpenter in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, including rough and finished carpentry
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
  • must possess a valid Wyoming driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • any additional training or certification is a plus
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical activities:
  • lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted)
  • bending, standing, climbing, and walking
Able to safely use:
  • manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades
Must be able to handle:
  • hazardous materials safely
  • tolerate exposure to electrical hazards
  • tolerate environmental hazards such as molds and various solvents
